Not just a pretty font

I owe Bickham Script Pro an apology. For years now, I have always associated the fancy little font with glossy womens’ magazines, painfully twee greetings cards and unimaginative advertising aimed at unimaginative women. For me, it was the font equivalent of Anthea Turner – pretty to look at, very useful to have around, but just a tiny bit dull.

However, I was working with said font the other day and – slowly but surely – I realised just how clever those little flourishes and flicks are. Stephen - did you know that your S and your P reach out to one another in such a romantic swoop? Without any promting, letters were magically transforming in front of my eyes depending on what letters or spaces were after them.
I was truely impressed by it’s intuition and natural flair for what is visually pleasing. So much so, I think I might use it the next time I design a birthday card for my Mum.
